The Role

Tesla Motors is seeking an Integration Engineer to focus on Electric Vehicle powertrain and high-voltage systems integration. The Integration Engineer is responsible for ensuring product functions are successfully achieved by the integrated subsystems as they interact in the context of the whole vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead integration of initial prototype systems, including bring-up, debug, end engineering test of complex systems involving networked microprocessors and software-controlled electrical and electrical-mechanical devices.
  • Collaborate with system architects to ensure the high-level architecture proposals address the detailed constraints from his/her functional area.
  • Fabricate prototype test setups and hardware-in-the-loop testers to integrate new subsystems with simulated and actual vehicle components.
  • Hold engineering responsible for the essential interfaces/interactions required for successful implementation of his/her functional area. This includes full product lifecycle responsibility for definition, implementation, and validation of these requirements to demonstrate the system is ready for product build phases and, ultimately, production. In some cases the Integration Engineer will be the subject matter expert and will be the chief technical contributor to aspects of system requirements and design.
  • Work with the cross-discipline development and design engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces and interactions to achieve specific vehicle functions.
  • Coordinate software and/or hardware releases so elements of the system are ready for integration.
  • Collaborate with the design, integration, and validation teams to design tests which will validate the functions, interfaces, and interactions of the system. Identify areas of concern, and work with teams to rectify any bugs.
  • Work jointly with the engineering and validation teams to design tests which will validate the functions, the interfaces and interactions.
  • Work with manufacturing and with service to ensure the function(s) for which he/she is responsible will be correct in products in the field. This can include development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Minimum 3 years working on development of complex electro-mechanical products.
  • Hands-on technical experience debugging complex systems involving networked microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devices.
  • Experience with C and/or C++
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • CAN tools such as Vector CANape
  • Experience safely working with high voltage
  • Comfortable analyzing data, as well as developing analytical tools to command functions, to monitor responses, to parse data from log files, or to aid in data review.
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to integrate complex system better and faster in alignment with the aggressive Tesla approach to revolutionary product development.
  • Understanding of battery/charger control in an xEV application
  • Exceptional ability to manage simultaneous activities and challenges.
  • Development of automated test fixtures
